Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, yet many don’t realize their risk. The American Heart Association (AHA) is dedicated to changing that by funding research, raising awareness, and advocating for better heart health in women.
Through initiatives like Go Red for Women, the AHA educates women about their heart disease risk factors and encourages prevention through healthy lifestyle choices. They also support groundbreaking research to improve treatments and outcomes for women’s heart health.
One of the AHA’s key efforts is addressing disparities in heart disease diagnosis and treatment among women. Studies show that women’s heart symptoms are often overlooked or misdiagnosed, leading to delayed care. The AHA is working to close this gap by training healthcare providers to better recognize and treat heart disease in women and funding research specifically focused on women’s cardiovascular health.
Beyond research and advocacy, the AHA provides valuable tools and resources to help women take charge of their heart health. From nutrition and exercise guidelines to stress management techniques, their programs empower women to make informed lifestyle changes. They also encourage women to know their numbers—blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and BMI—so they can take proactive steps toward heart disease prevention.
By promoting heart-healthy habits, advocating for better healthcare policies, and empowering women with knowledge, the AHA is making a real difference in saving lives. Because when women prioritize their heart health, they can live longer, stronger lives. ❤️
